Charity or social enterprise – which one is for you?

question-mark-1019820_960_720

When starting out with an impact project, it is fundamental to have it clear pretty much at the beginning how your project should be carried out and what it exactly aims at.

Would a charity organization be more relevant, or does your idea fit the social enterprise model better?

What would you like to achieve, and what way of operating do you think would be most effective in your situation?

Here’s a list of 5 differences between a social enterprise and charity work. Continue reading “Charity or social enterprise – which one is for you?”

You’ve got the idea. And now what?

One of the primary reasons leaders do not act is FEAR.

Bryan Miles, co-founder of MAG Bookkeeping, discussed this topic in detail recently. I found his thoughts to be very interesting and very applicable to difference makers of any kind.

Here is what he says:

“Feeling great about a new idea is awesome. Dealing with the feeling of impossibility about your new idea … well, that isn’t so great. And that is where a lot of great people with great ideas get hung up and never jump (aka take the leap).

If you’ve ever balked at an idea that you felt passionate about … you won’t like what I am about to tell you.

How not to give up too soon

“Knowing that you’re called is a more trustworthy gauge for future success than seeing immediate results.” – Eva Berger

Today’s topic: What to do when a calling you’re trying to live out doesn’t seem to have results.

It’s something I’ve had to deal with personally a few times and I know how discouraging it can get. What I experienced, in the end, was very positive, though, and this is why I want to share with you some of my thoughts on it.

Just the other day I went for a coffee with a dear friend of mine. In our conversation, she shared with me how she was very passionate about practicing Shiatsu (a form of therapeutic bodywork from Japan) but recently had gotten rather discouraged.

10 Powerful Vitamins for Difference Makers

vitamin-06

As we all know, vitamins are vital nutrients that our bodies need to work properly. Depending on which vitamin, a lack of them in our body may be the cause of a weak immune system, fatigue, tiredness, bodily functions not working properly – not to mention the development of serious illnesses, like diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure etc.

That principle of making sure to absorb enough vitamins to strengthen the body can also be applied to our soul and spirit.

I can definitely tell when I’ve been “junking out” mentally and spiritually and haven’t been giving my soul the proper nourishment that it needs! I feel like I don’t have enough strength to do the things I want to do, I feel more burdened and I get irritated more easily.

this-way

With this post I’d like to share a little bit about what has been going on in my life and what I’m learning, in the hopes that it will encourage you if you are facing something similar!

In “our tribe” of difference makers, life is a lot about doing things, implementing projects and working hard to make a difference in whatever way we feel called to. Yet, it is also closely connected to who we are as a person and our personal lives have quite an influence on how much we’re able to give and do!

So here’s my story…

These past two months have been turbulent ones for me. Things in my personal life have changed drastically, bringing with it great emotional distress. I’ve also relocated to another area recently.

Lighting up the globe

“Every time someone chooses compassion over indifference, good has triumphed and the world is different.” – Anonymous

Today, I’d like to introduce you to Mauro. His story is a story of the triumph of kindness and compassion over carelessness, indifference, and cruelty – of people that care for the unwanted and mistreated with respect and dignity, people that value and treasure life, no matter how it shows up.

Although he’s no longer around I feel compelled to let the world know about Mauro’s story. It demonstrates how even one little act of kindness can make a whole lot of difference in the world. These simple, seemingly small acts are what change the world – in ways we might not even imagine!
